The AGI Transition: How AI Affects Work and Life

WorkshopFreeBeginnerGeneralBusiness

About this event

A free public workshop on what "artificial general intelligence" actually means and what the transition toward it could do to jobs, relationships, and daily life. No technical background needed.

What the AGI transition might actually look like

This free public workshop from the AI Safety Awareness Project starts from a claim worth examining: that AI is no longer only improving at narrow tasks but beginning to look general, and that we may be in the early stages of a transition in which systems match or exceed human ability across many domains.

The session sets out to define artificial general intelligence in plain terms and distinguish it from today's tools, without hype or jargon. From there it works through consequences — which kinds of work are already being automated or reshaped and which researchers expect to prove resilient, and how AI is starting to supplement or replace roles once held by coworkers, tutors, therapists, and companions.

The format mixes a beginner-friendly explanation with real-world examples, live demos chosen to show both impressive capabilities and emerging risks, and interactive exercises that ask attendees to test their own intuitions about where this goes.

No technical background is required. The workshop runs 6:00–7:30 p.m. at the Pflugerville Public Library, in the Austin metro. Note this is a different session from the same organizer's "Where is AI in 2026" workshop earlier in the month.
