A free UChicago talk from Northwestern engineer Ella King, whose work applies AI methods to designing dynamic, self-correcting materials, part of the weekly Schmidt AI in Science series.
Ella King, Assistant Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering and of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, presents to the Schmidt AI in Science Speaker Series at the University of Chicago.
King's research sits at the intersection of machine learning and materials design, with a focus on dynamic, self-correcting materials: systems engineered to detect and repair their own defects rather than being manufactured perfect and degrading from there. It is a good example of AI as a design tool inside a physical science rather than as the object of study.
The series runs weekly through the academic year and features researchers presenting AI-driven developments across the physical sciences, biological sciences and engineering.
