Superintelligent AI and Loss of Control
About this event
A free Saturday morning workshop at the Montlake Library on current AI capabilities and control risk, covering employment, content authenticity, deepfakes and scams, with live demonstrations. No technical background needed.
The AI Safety Awareness Group Seattle brings this workshop to the Montlake Branch of the Seattle Public Library, a separate occurrence from its August session at Douglass-Truth and pitched at a Saturday morning audience.
The session examines current AI capabilities and their limits through a deliberately non-technical lens, then moves to the harder question of what happens if systems become more capable than the people supervising them. Alongside that longer-horizon material, it covers harms already in circulation: scams, deepfakes, and the erosion of confidence in whether a given piece of content is authentic. Impacts on employment and on human relationships are both on the agenda.
Live demonstrations of current systems run throughout, and attendees leave with frameworks for critically evaluating the claims made about AI products, which is arguably the most portable thing on offer here.
The workshop is free and open to the public, no technical background needed. It runs 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Hosted by Alon T.
