Spectra's Responsible AI series turns to education, with a four-perspective panel and breakout discussions on whether AI scaffolds a child's growth or quietly replaces the thinking it was meant to support.
AI is already in classrooms and at kitchen tables through tutoring apps, homework helpers, essay tools and study plans, largely without anyone deciding it should be. This RAIx session examines what that means.
The central question is whether AI acts as scaffolding for a child's development or as a shortcut that undermines it, and the honest answer probably depends on specifics the current debate glosses over. The session also covers teachers adapting lesson plans and grading when a student may have outsourced the thinking, and parents trying to judge whether homework help is building or replacing their child's capability.
The panel brings four vantage points: an AI safety researcher, a media and advocacy lead, a startup cofounder, and a product manager working on AI in policy. A panel discussion opens the evening, followed by breakout group discussions. Held at ERC Institute in UE Square. Free to attend.
