Could an AI Be Conscious? Discussing Recent Research

MeetupFreeAll levelsResearchersGeneral

About this event

A small Toronto discussion on the research and philosophical questions around AI consciousness, evidence, uncertainty, and the implications of not knowing.

Independent AI researcher Amir Kiani hosts a small-group Toronto conversation about whether an artificial intelligence system could be conscious. Rather than a lecture, the session uses a handout of competing positions and small-group discussion to examine what would count as evidence and what follows if the question cannot be settled.

No specialist background is required. The official page describes the event as a roughly 90-minute conversation at Qishr Coffee House, with approval-based RSVPs because capacity is limited. Attendance is free, though participants are asked to buy a drink or food from the cafe to support the venue.
