BIFOLD Summer School on Artificial Intelligence and Society
About this event
A four-day summer school on the BIFOLD campus at TU Berlin bringing machine learning research together with the social science of its deployment, run by Germany's national AI and big data research centre with the Weizenbaum Institute.
BIFOLD is the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data, one of Germany's national AI competence centres, based at TU Berlin. Its summer school on Artificial Intelligence and Society runs across four days in mid-September on the BIFOLD campus at Franklinstrasse in Charlottenburg.
The premise is that the technical and societal questions in AI are not separable: how a model is trained, evaluated and deployed determines what it does to the people it is pointed at. The programme is co-listed with the Weizenbaum Institute, which studies exactly that intersection.
Summer schools of this kind typically combine lectures from researchers with hands-on sessions and participant project work, and are aimed primarily at doctoral researchers and advanced students, though the audience is often wider.
Places at BIFOLD summer schools are usually limited and allocated by application rather than open registration, so check the deadline and eligibility on the event page before planning around it. The detailed daily schedule is published separately.
